  • Tips For Child Safety

Protecting Your Child. Give your children the tools they need to stay safe daily.

1.) Teach your child how to pronounce their full name, address and phone number. Make it a game or a song and they will learn it quickly.

2.) Teach your child how to use the telephone. One idea I had for my children was to make a colorful chart of numbers, 1-9 (speed dial numbers on the phone) with a picture next to each number.

    Example:

    #1 - a picture of a policeman
    #2 - a picture of a fireman
    #3 - a picture of Daddy

If your child can visually see the number to press on the phone with a picture of who they are going to talk to it will make it less stressful for them in a critical situation. Play the game with them often to call Daddy or Grandma. You get the picture, no pun intended!

3.) Play a "what if" game with your children to get them used to a proper response to a situation.

"What if a man asked you to help him find his lost puppy?"

"What if a man stopped you and said your mommy was hurt and you needed to go with him?"

Teach them how to respond to any situation you can think of. Play it often - repetition aides learning.

4.) Never leave your child alone, even for a minute, in the car, at home, at play or in a store aisle.

5.) Try using a wearable transmitter on our child. The Child Guard Panda is a great device that any child would love to wear. The "Panda" cartoon animal shaped device is worn on the wrist by your child. The "Panda" is a transmitter that sends constant signals to a receiver which an adult has in their possession. The receiver is on a key chain with a hook to put around your belt or belt loop for easy carrying. The signal is adjustable from 3 to 21 feet. When your child goes out of the range you have set the adults receiver will start to beep, letting you know your child is wandering away from you. This device is wonderful to use while shopping or out in a park. It only takes a second to get distracted and you can turn around and your child is gone. Only $25.50 for peace of mind.
